Dear [Name]

I am writing to apply for a placement on the Mayer Brown’s training programme . Please find attached my CV for your consideration.

As an LL.M (Honours) graduate with a clear track record of experience in international law, the training programme offered by Mayer Brown represent a unique opportunity to meet with current trainees and solicitors, learn about your practice, and gain first-hand experience in a range of practice areas and industries. I believe that this quality experience will allow me to make an informed decision as to the practice area of law I would like to specialise in as well as help my early professional development by learning from the best lawyers in the industry.

I am particularly interested in Mayer Brown because of the firm’s reputation in mergers and acquisitions practice area and its engagements in many of the largest ground-breaking transactions in history. Mayer Brown’s strong track record in mergers and acquisitions coupled with its prestigious international client base is one of the key considerations for me given my burgeoning interest, international background and experience in this practice area. I believe that Mayer Brown’s prestigious client base will expose me to quality work and innovative problems both of which will make my working environment professionally rewarding and intellectually stimulating. With an international background, experience and language skills, I will be able to add value to the work that I undertake as well as deliver an excellent client service.

Mayer Brown’s reputation for its inclusive, friendly and collaborative culture will allow me to forge professional and personal relationships, which will allow me to share my ideas and make a substantial contribution to the matters that I work on. Mayer Brown’s partners provide the necessary initiatives to young trainees towards a successful professional development. This indicates the effort of Mayer Brown to promote young professionals to improve their abilities and thus I would like to work side by side with the best in the field. Moreover, Mayer Brown’s pro-bono work and charitable image are particularly appealing to me because they highlight the firm’s ethical approach to its stakeholders and wider society at large which are closely in tune with my moral believes.

During my placements at top-tier law firms, I have gained valuable experience working in employment, banking and finance practice areas. Among others, I have completed placements at Cleary Gottlieb Steen & Hamilton, and Debevoise & Plimpton. At both of these firms, I worked alongside partners, associates and trainees, demonstrating my effective communication skills and practical legal abilities, as well as my ability to adapt to new teams, work and problems. I strongly believe that I would be able to adapt quickly to the environment at Mayer Brown, and make the most of the vacation scheme whilst using my experience to add value to my work.

Thank you your consideration.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Yours sincerely
